How To Lose Fat

Fat Loss Without Muscle Loss

Many people write to us and ask, how to lose fat. What they really should be asking though, is how to lose fat without losing muscle. That is the key to a healthy weight loss.

How do you lose body fat? By making three simple changes to your diet: eat 5-6 meals per day, eat more protein, and eat healthy fats.

Eat 5-6 Meals per Day

This change to your diet will increase your metabolism by working your digestive system more frequently. The result is an increase in the number of calories burned per day.

To supply your body's energy needs, body fat is more quickly mobilized and burned. This results in fat loss.

Eat More Protein

Protein is important because it helps to support muscle during times of calorie restriction. Muscle tissue is one of the main determinants of weight loss success because it is highly active even at rest.

The more muscle tissue you have, the more calories you'll burn. As with eating several meals a day, this forces the body to use body fat as an energy source.

Some good sources of protein are lean meats, egg whites, whey protein and soy protein isolates. We recommend starting with a diet containing 40% lean protein. Eat one protein source with each meal.

How much is too much protein?

  • That is almost impossible to answer because you need to know if your kidneys are functioning normally.

  • Assuming normal kidneys, eating 1-1.5 times your body weight is within the upper range for protein consumption. Eating 2 times your body weight may cause health problems.

  • If you're weight training, the upper range of protein consumption is higher.

  • Few studies are available on the affects of a high protein diet on individuals or athletes with healthy kidneys. There is, however, a study done in 1982 with patients who already had kidney problems.

The high protein intake, did of course, further degrade their kidney function.

Those with a history of kidney or liver disease should not eat a high protein diet.

Check with your doctor before increasing your protein intake. You might be on certain medications known to affect kidney function and increasing protein in your diet might cause problems. Adjustments to protein intake and/or the dose of the medication might be necessary.

Follow these steps to add more lean protein to your diet:

1. Add a lean protein source to each meal

2. Eat a diet consisting of 40% protein.

3. Protein shakes are a good way to add protein to your diet.

Eat Healthy Fat

Substituting healthy fat for harmful fat will increase fat loss. The exact mechanism is poorly understood.

For instance, eliminate 50% of the saturated fat from your diet, then add 25% of healthy fat, like Omega-3. Omega-3 comes from cold water fish.

Dietary Fat Does Not Become Body Fat

Remember, body fat comes from the conversion of extra calories that are now ready to use as an energy source for energy emergencies.

Your body will protect this emergency supply of energy, making fat loss more difficult.

A unique supplement that's highly recommended and worth your time to read about is Hoodia Gordonii. This product blocks the conversion of extra calories into body fat. Hoodia Gordonii attacks the fat loss problem by blocking its formation. It does this by suppressing your appetite, increasing your metabolism, and helping increase your energy level. It contains only all natural ingredients that will help you lose weight safely and effectively.
