Complications Specific to Gastric Banding

  1. You may bleed too much or get an infection

  2. You may get blood clots

  3. Your esophagus or other organs may be injured during surgery

  4. The gastric band may slip out of place, break or leak

  5. The band may cause a scar or may erode (eat into) the stomach tissue

  6. You may have problems during laparoscopic surgery that cause you to need open surgery

  7. Stomach ulcers

  8. Anemia if you don't get enough protein
