Nutrients can be divided into two broad categories: macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are required for energy and growth and the micronutrients are needed in small amounts for growth and to facilitate regular body functions. The human body has the ability to synthesize certain nutrients on its own, but those that cannot be produced at all, or in sufficient quantity must be supplied by food and supplements. These nutrients are known as essential nutrients and if you do not get enough of them in your diet, the body develops potentially harmful deficiencies. Hence the saying: "What you eat is a result of you”, before starting a diet in order to lose weight you must understand the food’s consistenc first. Foods vary in the amounts and types of nutrients and no single type of food provides all the nutrients required for good health. Variety is essential not just because of the ingredients, but you quickly give up if you get weary of one taste. A balanced diet would be the ideal eating habit to achieve weight loss. Sources of protein, carbohydrates and fats should be sought; proteins are essential as it facilitates growth and repair of muscle tissue, carbohydrates are essential in providing energy and stimulating anabolic hormones (especially insulin), and fat is required not only as a store of energy but also for its role in enabling various anabolic functions within the body. Unsaturated and essential fatty acid rich vegetable oils are the often recommended sources of fat, as well as the cutting down on things like sugar, soft drinks, processed foods and snacks, the limitation of caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes can also help promote health. In case you feel you won’t face the challenge, you may join a weight loss program or consult a health care specialist as any kind of support is more then welcome in the war against unwanted fat. You also shouldn’t forget about the important role of exercise as it speeds up the process, helps burn the gained surplus and elevates spirits by eliminating toxic materials due the increased metabolism and improved blood circulation.
